This week’s Guymon Daily Herald “Familiar Face” is Carli Whittler. Although the 23 year-old spent part of her childhood in Hawaii, where her father was stationed in the Air Force, Carlie now calls Guymon her home.
Growing up in Hawaii, at age 8, Carli won a State Championship in gymnastics and afterward, aspired to become a gymnast and participate in the Olympics.
Although she did not persue her alternate dream career to become a “voice actor, like in Disney movies,” Carlie’s voice is familiar to many in the area, as she is a Communications Officer for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Troop I. Carlie is also known in the community and down state for her volunteer work with Relay for Life and various foundations, such as the American Lung Association in Oklahoma City.
“I did a stair climb at the National Center in OKC for the American Lung Association and a 5k/1mile fun walk for the Limbs for Life Association,” Carlie said. “I am also an organ donor, I hope to save a life or improve one and I hope my family will be able to know who my organs will go to.”
Outside of work and volunteer work, Carlie is the proud mother of eight month old daughter, Braelyn Shay and enjoys photography, poker, music, MMA and running.
“I love to read,” Carlie said. “My favorite authors are Donald Miller, Mitch Albom and C.S. Lewis.”
Carlie’s list of favorites also includes, TV shows - “Sons of Anarchy,” “Justified,” “Golden Girls,” “Modern Family,” “New Girl” and “Dr. Phil,” Movies - “Lonesome Dove,” “Count of Monte Cristo,” “Legends of the Fall” and “Men of Honor.”
“Favorite comedy is ‘Tommy Boy’, hands down,” Carlie said. “I hate to admit it but I love most of the Housewives shows, those women are hilarious!”
As for music, Carlie says she enjoys “listening to 60’s music while cleaning and everything else, depending on my mood.”
Carlie admits, other favorites are eating breakfast for dinner, dark beer, photoshop, Al Pacino and “donut holes from the Donut Palace, it is impossible to eat just one. I’m also a sucker for cheesecake, yum!”
When asked about her dream car, Carlie said she honestly never had a dream car.
“I do know that I had always wanted one of those old vans, but not the serial killer kind,” Carlie said. “It would be my own version of the ‘Mystery Machine,’ but carpeted and with limo seating.”
