Texhoma boys named Regional Consolation, girls Regional runner ups

GDH staff reportSEILING – The Texhoma Red Devils were off and running Saturday evening with nothing but net on their minds. With a score of 55-44 over Cherokee, their efforts paid off - with a regional consolation prize. Although the Lady Red Devils were unable to etch out a win against the Cheyenne-Reydon Lady Bears after a final score of 56-40, they will be headed to Enid with their male counterparts Thursday to fight for a state title. Texhoma’s boys rounded out the first quarter with only a six point lead against Cherokee. The back and forth continued throughout the remainder of the first half and even into the third quarter. However, the Red Devils decided to play some ball in the fourth quarter, out-scoring their opponents by seven points bringing the score to 55-44. Red Devil Nate Knitig led his team by putting 23 points on the score board. Head Coach Greg Higgins in keenly aware his boys must keep a level head and focus on each game as if it is their last – and he has faith in his Red Devils.The Lady Red Devils experienced their first loss of the playoff process Saturday evening, but they refuse to let it stop them. The Cheyenne-Reydon Lady Bears we able to outshoot Texhoma’s girls throughout the entirety of the game. Senior Ann E. Freeman led the Lady Red Devils with 12 points to her credit.In a recent interview, Head Coach Britton Gabriele said he believes his girls have some talent that has been overlooked. “I think our girls were overlooked all season long,” Gabriele said. “I think now they are starting to open some eyes. They can play and we are ready to get as far as we can in the playoffs.”The Lady Red Devils play Cashion at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, the boys play Garber at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Chisholm Trail Expo Arena in Enid.
