Stephen (Steve) Lehew was born in Lawton, but has made Guymon his home for 17 years.
He is 41 for the next few days, as he turns 42 on Oct. 12, and has been employed by Guymon Public Schools for 15 years and Guymon Church of the Nazarene for seven years.
He says he loves being a teacher and minister and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
His wife is Tammy Lehew, whom he says has been his best friend for 18 years, and they have two children, Brayden, age 15 and Kayden, age 7.
For volunteer work, he is a member of the Oklahoma District Nazarene Children’s Council and he is also a Children’s Pastor at Guymon Church of the Nazarene.
He names Candy Crush as his guilty pleasure and said that when he wanted to grow up, he wanted to be just like his dad, Dean Lehew, who taught him how to love God and love all people.
A few of his favorite things include listening to KJIL, because the songs lift him up and encourage him to live a life like Christ would have him to live and the television show “Survivor”.
As far as his dream car goes, he responded, “as long as it runs and gets me where I need to go, it’s my dream car.”
His favorite scripture is Joshua 1:9, which reads “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Lehew is well known for his kind heart and for going above and beyond to put a smile on the faces of others.
“I love being around children, both at church and at school,” said Lehew. “I’m so glad God called me to be a teacher and a pastor. I love the fact that I get to build relationships with people at school and at church and enjoy when I get the chance to pray with those who God sends across my path.”
If you see this Familiar Face out and about around town, be sure to stop by and say “hello” and talk with him for a minute. You are guaranteed to walk away with a smile. Also, be sure to wish him a “happy birthday” as 42 is right around the corner!
