TEXHOMA—The Red Devils celebrated Homecoming with a 42-6 win over Mooreland Friday night, just a few hours after Mooreland’s softball team beat the Lady Devils 27-0 at the regional tournament.
The score of the football game could have been much higher. One Texhoma touchdown was called back due to a penalty and younger, less experienced Red Devil players were in the game late in the contest for the experience.
Previously undefeated Mooreland had played teams that have not won any games this season.
Texhoma is now 4-0 and ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in separate polls.
The Red Devils rushed for a total of 445 yards. Mooreland only accumulated 146 yards in their ground game.
Bryson Beattie appeared to be almost a one-man show. Of the 445 Red Devil yards, Beattie gained 181 on 11 carries. He scored two rushing touchdowns and returned a punt for a touchdown. He also had one catch for 34 yards.
Beattie ran about 70 yards for what appeared to be a touchdown on the first play after the opening kickoff. Officials called the ball back to the 33-yard line after a penalty flag. Beattie scored on the next play.
Will Galliard also scored a touchdown.
“It was a real good game. They played great,” said Texhoma head coach Aaron Witten.
“Mooreland is a real good team,” he added.
“Bryson (Beattie) is a stud. He’s our guy. He’s a great kid,” Witten said.
He praised the defensive team for a great game and coach Buddy Husted, Texhoma’s defensive coordinator.
“That’s why we kick so many onside kicks. We trust every one of them at any time,” Witten said.
Quarterback “Jack (Powers) has proven to be our leader. If we’re in a bad play call, he’ll get us in a right one,” he said.
