In Memory of Emily

September 10, 2012

Adam El-Amoudi and Lauren El-Amoudi swim laps Saturday in memory of their sister Emily, who died in July at the age of 14 after a battle with leukemia, during the Emily El-Amoudi Swim-a-Thon at the YMCA pool in Guymon. Organized by YMCA Aquatics Director and Guymon Gators Swim Team coach Erica Rixon, the event raised money for the El-Amoudi family. Emily was a member of the Gators Swim Team. Rixon said she plans to do the event every year. Next year she is considering raising funds that will go toward research to find a cure for leukemia and has ideas for doing the event in the future to raise funds toward Guymon Gators swim team scholarships in Emily’s name and to honor her memory for those who want to be on the swim team, but don’t have the money to do so. Rixon is unsure what exactly she wants to do as next year’s fundraiser, but knows that Emily will be honored for each time the event takes place. (Staff photo/Shawn Yorks)
