McKinnon MSG board member of the year

February 7, 2012

Warner McKinnon has been named the Main Street Guymon Board Member of the Year for 2011. McKinnon has served as Secretary of the Board since the organization began in 2005.
“If the board were a building,” says Main Street Director Melyn Johnson, “Warner would be the foundation. His legalistic mind holds information (past and present) that we need to know and be reminded of. He is certainly up to the task.”
A quiet person, McKinnon is generally most comfortable in the background. He assists with calling on the membership drive and since he asks so little of people, when he does they usually listen. He religiously attends the board meetings and does what he has said he would do.
His office at Long and McKinnon Insurance sits on the same block as the Main Street Guymon office, a historical building renovated by Main Street volunteers in the first years.
“I am pleased every day when I walk past the Main Street Guymon building and remember what it looked like before,” says McKinnon. “Without Main Street Guymon the building probably would have been torn down. Instead of another vacant space, we have a home for Main Street Guymon and it serves as an inspiration for others in preserving these structures.”
McKinnon is always positive about the Main Street program. He truly believes in its capacity to make Guymon a better place to be.
“I am most pleased,” tells McKinnon, “that we were able to help bring Oklahoma’s 23rd Annual Statewide Preservation Conference to Guymon. Community leaders from all over the state came to Guymon. Many of these people would never had visited Guymon without our hosting this event.”
With board members like McKinnon, Main Street Guymon is looking toward to a bright future in helping Guymon be a better place.
