The Lady Tigers split a doubleheader with Forgan Tuesday night, losing the first game 6-5 and winning the second 11-5.
In the first game, a first inning two-run home run over the fence in center field by Forgan’s Kenzi Taylor gave the Lady Bulldogs an early three-run lead.
Guymon answered with just one run in the bottom of the first inning when Lakin Winters scored on a wild pitch.
Forgan added two runs in the top of the third inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Shay Henry walked and Jahaira Marquez doubled to deep left field. Graciela Gutierrez signed driving in both base runners and bringing the score to 5-3.
In the sixth inning, Henry doubled. Anahiz Alverez beat out an infield ground ball and Henry scored. Winters singled. The inning ended when an umpire called a third out saying that Winters left first base too early. Just as the umpire made the call, Kennedy Melton hit a line drive that dropped into left field. It might have driven in one run and possibly two.
The Lady Tigers scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Melton singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a bad throw and scored on a sacrifice by Monica Padilla.
In the second game, Forgan scored three runs in the first inning. Guymon answered with a four-run first. Winters and Melton got on base and advanced to second and third with a double steal. Winters scored on a wild pitch and Melton scored on a hit by Padilla, who went on to score on another run on a wild pitch. A single by Guitierrez scored Henry for the fourth run.
Winters walked in the second inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Padilla singled scoring Melton for the sixth run. Two more wild pitches scored Carli Purdy and Padilla. Henry scored the ninth run on a sacrifice by Guitierrez.
Winters scored a 10th run on a throwing error in the third inning.
Forgan scored a fifth run int the fourth inning and Guymon added an 11th run on Padilla scored on a single by Guiterez.
“We should have hit the ball better,” said Guymon head coach Wesley Bryson.
“We’re getting there one game at a time. We’re still way off from where we want to be,” he added.
The Lady Tigers have played less than .500 so far this season, off from recent years. The 2012 team is dominated by freshmen and sophomores. There are only two seniors on the squad and only one is a current starter.
“If we play the way we should be playing, we wouldn’t be losing any games,” Bryson said.

Panhandle softball roundup
Hooker, Beaver split doubleheader
BEAVER—The Lady Bulldogs split a doubleheader with Beaver Tuesday, winning the first game and losing the second.
Reached at his home later Tuesday night, Hooker head coach Terry Meade did not have his score book at home and said he did not know the exact scores.
He credited Kyra Cathcart for pitching a good game in the first game and Breezy Hickey for a good catch in center field. There were no extra base hits.
The Hooker junior high team also lost at Beaver.
“In the history of Hooker junior high softball, we were undefeated in junior high and we got beat 10-8,” Meade said.
Hooker and several other Panhandle schools started junior high softball programs for the first time this year. Beaver is the only Panhandle softball program that had a junior high team prior to this season.
“I play on them winning that Guymon tournament when they play four different teams,” Meade said. That tournament will be played in Guymon Sept. 15.
He said Sarah Kraft did a good job pitching against Beaver.
Naomi Rodriguez had her third triple of the season.

Boise City takes a pair from Goodwell-Yarbrough
YARBROUGH—Goodwell-Yarbrough lost a pair to Boise City Tuesday 13-1 and 11-6.
The two teams split a doubleheader played in Boise City last week.
The Tornadoes pitcher Shaylee Kelso struck out eight batters.
In the second game, Boise City scored 10 of the 11 runs in the last two innings.
