Keylon bake sale nets more than $4,000

January 8, 2012

Denise Keylon has spent her life in service to the community. Even after losing her son in a car wreck two years ago, Keylon used that tragedy to help the community in her late son Kody’s name.
The Texas County community gave back to Denise on Saturday.
Keylon was struck by another vehicle while helping a motorist who had become stranded in the snow outside Texhoma on Dec. 23. She has undergone several surgeries and a partial amputation.
To help do their part to help Denise with medical expenses, Tene Nelson and Sarah Miller of Guymon organized a bake sale on Saturday, hoping to raise some money to help Denise.
They were successful — to the tune of $4,386.
“The turnout was amazing,” Miller said Sunday. “It was so good to see people taking part in something much bigger than their own problems.”
Miller said some people didn’t know what had happened to Denise — a Texhoma resident who teaches fourth grade at Academy Elementary in Guymon.
“All they knew was that somebody needed help and they did what they could to contribute,” Miller said.
Donations ranged from a dollar to $1,000.
