The Lady Tigers took a tough loss from Hugoton Thursday night in the first home volleyball match since Aug. 21.
Hugoton’s Lady Eagles won three sets in a best three out of five match.
The Lady Tigers lost the first set 21-25 and the second 19-25.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early substantial lead in the second set. Guymon overcame a deficit of seven points late in the set but lost by six.
In the third and final set, the Lady Tigers trailed 0-8 and fought back leading 15-13 at one point. They went on to lose the set 20-25.
Kate Strickland led offensively with 14 kills. Ashton Sledge followed with 10 and Erin Bledsoe with six.
Bledsoe had three blocks and Jessie Groves-Rocha had two.
“I thought our energy was great,” said Guymon head coach Ty Ware.
“We hustled but we made some silly mistakes. We struggled with our serve-receive,” he said.
“Every time we got down we came battling back,” Ware said.
“If we could quit getting into holes at the beginning of sets, we would be in pretty good shape,” he said.
“I thought Erin Bledsoe played great tonight — Erin, Kate, Ashton,” Ware said, recognizing not only Bledsoe but Strickland and Sledge.
The Lady Tigers will be at the Noble Tournament Saturday. The Guymon varsity has one remaining home match scheduled against Clayton, N.M., on Sept. 27, at 6 p.m.
