HOOKER—The Lady Bulldogs tamed the Lady Bobcats with an 18-3 win Thursday.
The game was called in the bottom of the third inning when Hooker scored the 18th run, creating a 15-run deficit for Tyrone and invoking the 15-run mercy rule.
The Lady Bulldogs came out fighting in the bottom of the first frame. While Tyrone led 2-0, Hooker quickly tied the game and took the lead with two more runs scored by Shania Miller and Kyra Cathcart.
Leading 4-2, the Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Bobcats scoreless in the second inning and added four more runs in the bottom of the second bringing the tally to 8-2.
Hooker exploded in the bottom of the third inning with a 10-run rally that ended with the game being called for the mercy rule with just two outs.
The Lady Bulldogs’ pitcher, Kyra Cathcart, struck out four batters.
Tyrone put together several hits in the first inning for two runs and a third in the third inning.
“Overall, they did a good job,” Hooker head coach Terry Meade said after the game.
He also praised Tyrone third baseman Monica Olivas for several good plays as an infielder.
The Lady Bobcats made several errors.
Tyrone head coach Hope Cox didn’t have a lot to say following the loss.
“We just didn’t want it bad enough,” she said.
When told that Meade praised Olivas for her defensive play at third base, Cox said, “She works hard for us and she is a good senior leader.”
Only one varsity game was played. The Hooker junior high team defeated Tyrone 15-0.
