Homicide investigation on-going for death of Tyrone man

July 9, 2014

The small community of Tyrone is currently in shock with news of an investigation into the homicide of 70-year-old James Edward Vitkowski.
Vitkowski was the owner of Jim’s Auto & Salvage on Highway 54 and was found by one of his employees. The employee found Vitkowski lying on the floor.
He was transported to the hospital and then flown to a Kansas Hospital.
Vitkowski died Tuesday morning from what OSBI said in a release appears to be blunt force trauma to the head.
“His body is being taken for an autopsy,” said Jessica Brown with OSBI. “We are waiting for the results of that autopsy, but in the meantime, a week after he was found, we are now investigating, doing interviews and looking for anybody who has any information.”
His body has been transported to the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Oklahoma City for the autopsy and an OSBI agent is working to determine the motive behind an assault that turned into homicide, according to the release.
If anyone has information that may be helpful to the case, contact the OSBI at 1-800-522-8017.
