Gruver student found dead in drainage ditch on Christmas

December 30, 2012

Christmas night was a rough one for the community of Gruver as a tragic incident took the life of 18-year-old Gruver High School student, Armando Guereca, Jr.
As reported by Hansford County Sheriff Gary Evens, Guereca lived at the USA Feedyard just outside of Gruver, and was being taken home just before midnight by a friend when Guereca asked to be dropped off by the gate instead of directly to his house, which Sheriff Evans claims to be approximately a half mile walk.
Sheriff Evans states that Guereca and his friend argued about that for a bit, but his friend finally let Guereca out where he asked to be let out. Alcohol was involved.
He was found in a drainage ditch with about one foot of water in it, and it was an extremely cold night. When the call was received, temperatures were at about 16 degrees with high winds as well.
The investigation is still on-going.
Guereca was a junior at Gruver High School and services took place for him on Friday afternoon in Spearman.
