The Guymon Mayor and City Council on Thursday had a chance to see the redrawn Wards for the City of Guymon, at its regular meeting.
The city is divided into four Wards, with the population divided as equally as possible amongst each Ward. Each boundary is redrawn every 10 years based on the decennial census figures.
“There weren’t a whole lot of changes in population,” said Community Development Director Vicki McCune. “But enough based on the Census numbers that we did have to do some minor changes.”
Guymon’s 2010 Census population was listed as 11,442 within the city limits.
Ward 1 increased a little in population, so some of that Ward was moved into Ward 2.
“Each Ward has to be kept within 5 percent, plus or minus,” said Mayor Jim Norris.
“It’s a matter of faormalities,” McCune said.
The Ward map will be posted at city hall for 30 days for the public to view, and the city council will decide on the noundaries at a future meeting.
“We’re letting the public know that we’re announcing a change and they need to look at their Ward maps,” McCune said.
Guymon’s Ward population breakdown:
Ward 1: 2,997
Ward 2: 2,883
Ward 3: 2,828
Ward 4: 2,784
Total: 11,442.
•In other action Thursday, the council voted to advertise for bids for repair and cleaning of the elevated water tower at 10th and Sunset. The tower holds 500,000 gallons of water.
The plan is to do one tower each year. The city has nine storage towers, with three in immediate need of repair.
