Advance America helping make a happy holiday season

October 18, 2012

Advance America is already taking steps to make it a great holiday season for those in need this year with a toy, jacket, and food drive that is located at their store at 1908 U.S. 64.
Claudia Quijas, manager at Advance America said that they are now accepting new toys, jackets, and canned food. The toys do not have to be high-end or expensive, and they can be any kind of toys for all ages. They may also include games or sports toys. Jackets are for children of all ages, and the foods must be canned goods.
“All of that stuff we are taking to DHS,” said Quijas, “and the food is going to DHS, but then it is going to Loaves and Fishes.”
For this holiday giving drive, items may be dropped off at the Advance America store during business hours. Monday thru Thursday they are open until 6 p.m., open until 7 p.m. on Fridays, and upon until 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
There is a drop-off inside for all to place their items.
“We are definitely looking forward to how much we can help the community out,” said Quijas. “We are trying to get the Optima school to help as well,” she said. “We are trying to get them out there to help us as much as they can.”
This is Advance America’s first time to do this drive, and although they aren’t sure how much to expect, they are setting their goal high.
“We are hoping to get at least 2,500 canned goods,” said Quijas. “I want to see how it goes, but I’m hoping to do this every year.”
