Lady Bulldogs down Goodwell-Keyes; Hooker Jr. High wins

HOOKER — The Hooker Lady Bulldogs found its winning form again on Tuesday afternoon, downing Goodwell-Keyes 14-7 on a hot, blustery day at the Hooker HIgh School athletic complex.

Fort Elliott hands Lady Tigers first loss

GUYMON — The Guymon Lady Tigers volleyball team seemed headed for their second straight win Thursday afternoon against Briscoe (Texas) Fort Elliott. The ladies showed some heart in the first game, rallying late to post a 25-20 win.

Panhandle Conference Tournament opens at Tyrone, Turpin

Tyrone opened the 2014 softball season Thursday at home with the Panhandle Conference Tournament, featuring Texhoma, Hooker, Turpin, Goodwell and Boise City. The Lady Bobcats took on Boise City in the tournament opener Thursday at Tyrone High School, falling to the Lady Wildcats 9-7 as Boise City dressed just eight players. Tyrone went on to a 15-0 loss to Hooker later Thursday as the Lady Bulldogs also ripped Boise City 14-1.

Lady Tigers fall to Beaver in home-opener

GUYMON — The Guymon Lady Tigers took on Beaver in their home-opener Thursday night, falling to the Lady Dusters 12-4.
But head coach Wes Bryson said, while he’s not pleased with his team’s 0-3 start, he’s not too terribly upset, either. He said the girls are playing well, with young players learning the ropes as well as team leaders sitting out some games with injuries.

Guymon JV, freshmen dominate West Texas

GUYMON — The Guymon junior varsity and freshmen volleyball squads opened the regular season Monday afternoon with a pair of victories over the Stinnett West Texas Lady Comanches.

The junior varsity Lady Tigers dominated from start to finish with a 25-17, 25-13 sweep of WT.

The freshmen took two of three, dominating the first set, 25-5, but falling 25-10 in the second set. Guymon won the deciding game 15-10.

Lady Tigers open with win over West Texas

GUYMON — The first win is always the most difficult, and that sentiment held true for the Guymon Lady Tiger volleyball team Monday.

The Lady Tigers came out on top of a hard-fought 25-18, 22-25, 24-17, 25-23 win over Stinnett West Texas, a win that gave the young Lady Tigers a boost of confidence heading into Thursday’s home match with Fort Elliott (Texas).

Move-aways, inexperience present obstacles for Lady Tiger softball

Guymon head coach Wes Bryson was excited about the upcoming season. He had two pitchers coming back who were two of the strongest in the area.

Then starter Paige Jones moved away.

So did Macy Pritchard, who was not only a stout pitcher but all-conference utility who hit better than .290 last season.

Young Lady Tigers hope to build on regional finals appearance

Fresh off a regional finals appearance a year ago, Guymon High School volleyball coach Ty Ware is excited about the future, but he knows a repeat performance will be a tough task. Especially with only two seniors and a junior with any sort of varsity experience.
