Hunter Brown caught two of those scores and ran for another, Isahi Vargas caught a touchdown pass and John Godfrey added one more for the Bulldogs.

The Hooker defense set the tone early when Colton Powell recovered a Duster fumble on the first play of the game, setting the Bulldogs up at the Beaver 13.

GUYMON — The Guthrie Blue Jays were ranked No. 2 in the state. The Guthrie Blue Jays were the defending Class 5A state champions.

The Guthrie Blue Jays were down to the Guymon Tigers 8-6 after the first 12 minutes of Friday night’s game at Carl & Lou McKinnon Field. But what was one of Guymon’s best quarters of football in several years and a sluggish start for the Blue Jays, turned into a route for the visitors, 62-14, on a cold, damp night in Guymon.

Texhoma, Guymon fall in district battles; Hooker blanks Sayre

TEXHOMA — For all the Homecoming pomp and circumstance Friday night at Wheatbowl Stadium in Texhoma, there was still a football game to play. A key District A-1 contest against the state’s No. 7-ranked (AP) team.

And after Jacob Test and Jordan Whitfield were crowned Texhoma’s Homecoming King and Queen, and Riley Hines and Caitlin Graham the Goodwell royalty, the Red Devils got down to business.

But early turnovers cost Texhoma in a 52-21 loss to Thomas-Fay-Custer.

Red Devils face homecoming test against No. 7 Thomas; Hooker looks to get back to winning vs. Sayre

October 3, 2014

Texhoma head coach Ryan Jackson was happy to get his first win as head coach of the Red Devils, last week. But the jubilation was short-lived.

Jackson knows tonight’s District A-1 Homecoming opponent will be on the complete opposite side of the spectrum from Sayre. Thomas-Fay Custer comes to Wheatbowl Stadium as the No. 7-ranked team in Oklahoma. But it’s a team that hasn’t been challenged yet this season.

Tigers hope to build on win

October 2, 2014

GUYMON — The Guymon Tigers got their break-out win last week in dominating fashion. Now it’s time to build on that momentum.

“We were on Cloud 9 for a few days, but then come Monday, we had to go back to the drawing board and be humble and reign everybody back in and start concentrating on Carl Albert,” Guymon coach Mike Taylor said. “It was a great win. I Cannot praise the young men enough, and I cannot praise the coaching staff enough.

September 27, 2014

GUYMON — It’s been a long time coming for the Guymon Tigers. About 687 days had passed since Guymon’s varsity football team last won a game. The program had been in a tailspin.

That is, until Friday night.

Guymon got the monkey off its back in big fashion, dominating Oklahoma City Southeast 68-21 at Carl & Lou McKinnon Field. And the fact it was Homecoming didn’t hurt at all.

How does it feel to get your first win as head coach, Mike Taylor?

Tigers take on OKC Southeast for homecoming tonight

September 26, 2014

GUYMON — Coaches traditionally try to schedule what they consider “weaker” opponents for Homecoming in an effort to garner a win for their team. But for Guymon the last few years, no opponent can be considered weak.

But for Homecoming this year, the Tigers will be facing one of the “weaker” teams in District 5A-2 in the Southeast Spartans. Head coach Mike Taylor just hopes the distractions surrounding Homecoming won’t cause his team to lose focus as the Tigers try to get their first win since the final game of 2012 and Taylor’s first as a head coach.
