Goodwell High School junior Christian Arbuthnot’s head was still spinning Friday afternoon. Christian had just returned from a week-long trip to Australia, where he competed for Team USA in the “Down Under Sports” track meet at Griffith University in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

And Christian has some hardware to remember the trip. Gold hardware, to be exact.

Guymon Tiger swimmers named to All-VYPE Northwest Oklahoma team

GUYMON — VYPE Oklahoma high school sports magazine published its Northwest Oklahoma All-VYPE Winter edition. The honor of being named to the All-VYPE Swimming Northwest Oklahoma Team fell on three of Guymon High School’s swimmers:  Dylan Kemp, Aly Freeland and Sarah Fowler.

Three Guymon travel softball softball teams heading to Dodge City for weekend ‘Border War’

The summer travel softball season is in full swing, and Guymon will be well-represented this weekend at the Border War Shootout World Series at Legends Park in Dodge City.

Three Guymon softball teams — the Panhandle Wind 12U, Oklahoma Storm 14U and 12U — will participate in the tournament.

Guymon Babe Ruth wraps up successful season

Guymon Babe Ruth Orange Team completed a successful 2014 Season, finishing league play with an 8-1 record.

The league consisted of teams from Hugoton (2 teams), Liberal (2 teams),
Hooker, Turpin, Beaver and Guymon (2 teams). Babe Ruth consisted of 13-15 year-old ball players.

Jake “The Snake” Gowdy is a true cowboy.

Born in Guymon and now living in Bristow, Jake first jumped on the back of sheep when he was 7 years old. But a sheep just wasn’t cutting it.
So Jake found something bigger — a bull. And he’s been doing it ever since.

Landes, Kemp are Guymon Gators Swimmers of the Week

This week’s Guymon Gators swimmers of the week fall into both categories of swimmers: the experienced and the beginner. But both have made strides in the pool and have qualified for this weekend’s Western Kansas Swim Club championships at the Guymon YMCA pool.

Slots still open for Chamber golf tournament

Slots are still available for the 12th Annual Guymon Chamber of Commerce 4-person scramble golf tournament which takes place July 12 at 9 a.m. at Sunset Hills Golf Course.
Chamber director Jada Breeden about 15 teams had signed up as of Tuesday afternoon, so there’s still room for 21 more teams.
The cost is $260 per team, which covers entry fee and green fee, two carts per team and lunch. Two mulligans cost $10.
Prizes include hole-in-one prizes on holes 4, 7, 13 and 16; closest to pin on 13; longest drive on 12; 50/50 putting and a $25 players pool.

Guymon Gators win Spearman swim meet

SPEARMAN, Texas — The Guymon Gators captured first place Saturday at the Spearman swim meet with a dominating performance.
The Gators will compete in Dumas, Texas this Saturday in their final meet before the Western Kansas league championships in Guymon July 12-13.

Gators second at Dodge City

June 15, 2014

DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Guymon Gators Swim Club placed second to Great Bend, Kan for the second consecutive week, Saturday. The meet was Guymon’s third of the season thus far, placing first in Ulysses, Kan. two weeks ago and second last week in Dodge City.

Sarah Fowler and Dylan Kemp each set new pool record Saturday in Dodge City.

The Gators will visit Spearman, Texas this coming Saturday before heading to Dumas, Texas on June 28.
