Tigers dominate Guymon tournament

GUYMON — Conner Kauffman shot a 36-36 — 72 to earn top medalist honors and lead the Guymon High School golf team to a first place finish in the GHS boys golf invitational on Friday at Sunset Hills Golf Course. The Tigers took four of the top five individual placements as Guymon dominated with a team total of 299, 47 strokes ahead of second place Woodward.

Lady Tigers fall to Carl Albert 2-0

GUYMON — Not too many coaches can come out of a loss and not be overly disappointed. But Guymon head girls coach Michelle Davis was pleased overall with her team’s performance Friday, even though the Lady Tigers ended up on the short end of a 2-0 final against Carl Albert.

Davis changed the defensive scheme the last two games, and while the Lady Tigers were on their heels the entire first half, the defense never broke and went into halftime tied at zero.

Lightning delay, rain don’t slow Tigers in 3-1 win, Guymon still in playoff hunt

GUYMON — Panhandle weather already has a sour reputation with those from downstate. If anything, Friday’s weather at Guymon High School proved it.

The Tigers and Carl Albert waited out an hour-long lightning delay and battled in moderate rain throughout a second half that also featured brief small hail and high winds before the Tigers pulled out a 3-1 win.

Area teams get to play at home this week

The road warriors that are Texas County high school teams get to save a few miles and play at home this week. But that’s not to say there won’t be a few miles added to local school buses.

Baseball, soccer hit the road Friday; track at Liberal

The Guymon High School baseball team will hit the road to Liberal Friday, and will be at home for their first home game of the year on Monday against El Reno. Guymon soccer will be at Noble Friday, and area track squads will be competing in Liberal on Friday.

Guymon High School is set to play home soccer games today against Guthrie. The girls play at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7.

The GDH just learned that the Guymon High School boys soccer team will play at HOME TODAY at 5:30 against Borger, Texas. Athletic Director Tyler Chapman said the game was added just this weekend.

Hooker grade school tournament under way

March 26, 2015

The Hooker Grade School tournament began play Thursday afternoon with 3rd/4th grade games at Hooker Junior High and 5th/6th grade games at Hooker High School. The boys begin play Friday, and the tournament wraps up Saturday. The Rod O'Hara Memorial Youth Tournament begins Friday at Goodwell High School and Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Texas County ground zero for youth basketball this week

March 22, 2015

Texas County will be the scene for two major youth basketball tournaments later this week, as the Hooker Booster Club Tournament begins Thursday and lasts through Saturday, and the Rod O'Hara Youth Tournament begins Friday at Goodwell High School and OPSU. Games for 3rd/4th graders and 5th/6th graders continue through Saturday.
