Lady Dogs rip Mooreland for district title; Bulldogs fall in OT

MOORELAND — Kyra Cathcart dominated inside for the Hooker Lady Dogs, scoring 29 points to lead Hooker to a 61-39 win over Mooreland on Saturday evening to capture the 2A Area 1 District 3 championship. The Lady Bulldogs will play in the first round of the 2A regionals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Fairview. A Lady Dog win advances them to the regional championship Saturday in Merritt against the Sayre-Watonga winner. A loss drops Hooker to the consolation bracket Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the Mooreland-Christian Heritage winner.

Higgins wins 300th, Texhoma advances to Area Tourn.; Lady Devils fall

SHATTUCK — Nate Knitig drained 22 points and Texhoma coach Greg Higgins picked up his 300th career coaching win as the Red Devils advanced to the Class A Area tournament with a 58-49 win over Laverne in the regional consolation final Saturday in Shattuck.

Fowler takes brings home two second place finishes at state swim meet

EDMOND — Guymon High School sophomore Sarah Fowler brought home two second place finishes in the 100- and 500-yard freestyle Saturday in the finals of the Class 5A state swim meet at the Edmond Aquatics Center. Fowler was also on the 100-yard medley relay that placed third.

5A State Swim Meet Prelim Results

The Guymon High School 200-yard girls medley relay team of Aly Freeland, Kaelyn Carter, Sarah Fowler and Ryanne Landes finished second behind Heritage Hall by 0.31 of a second Friday evening in the state prelims in Edmond. The freestyle relay was 4th.

The Guymon boys medley relay of Aaron Huckins, Kaleb Brown, Dylan Kemp and Cristian Gonzalez, finished sixth. The boys 200 freestyle relay was 10th.

Dylan Kemp was 6th in the 100 butterfly.

Sarah Fowler was second in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle.

Goodwell eliminates Tyrone at Class B regionals

KEYES — Christian Arbuthnot scored 12 of his game-high 17 points off 3-pointers and 10 different players scored for Goodwell as the Eagles downed Tyrone 58-35 in the consolation bracket of the Class B regionals Thursday afternoon in Keyes.

Goodwell advances to play Waynoka Friday at 3 p.m. in Forgan. Tyrone’s season is over at 15-10.

Tiger swimmers set for 5A state meet

GUYMON — In just its second year of existence, the Guymon High School swim team has become a major force in the state of Oklahoma. Heading into the state swim meet Friday and Saturday in Edmond, Guymon features the regional champion and top-seeded girls medley relay team, the regional champion and 2nd-ranked girl in the breast stroke, and 2nd-seeded girl in the 100-yard freestyle.

Friday's prelims start at 5 p.m. and the finals srtart at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Edmond Schools Aquatic Center at Mitch Park.

Scoreless third dooms Tyrone in regional loss to Keyes; Hardesty, Texhoma girls advance; Texhoma boys fall by 4

KEYES — The Keyes Lady Pirates shut the Tyrone Lady Bobcats out in the third quarter to break open what had been a 1-point game at halftime, lifting the Lady Pirates to a 40-33 win in the Class B regional consolation bracket Thursday at Keyes High School. The Lady Pirates (13-8) will play Buffalo Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Forgan in another regional elimination game.

Tyrone’s season ends at 10-16.

Tigers hand Hooker 23-point loss

GUYMON — The Hooker Bulldogs once again found themselves in a rough and tumble rivalry game against Class 5A Guymon on Saturday night. And while Hooker wasn’t afraid to go nose to nose with the Tigers, the result was similar to the teams’ first meeting back on Jan. 6th at Hooker — a 20-plus point win for Guymon.

The 66-43 Tiger win snaps a 3-game losing skid for Guymon heading into their regular-season finale Tuesday at Woodward, while the Bulldogs head into their district championship game at Mooreland this coming Saturday on a 2-game losing streak.

Hein buzzer-beater lifts Lady Tigers over Hooker

GUYMON — Kyra Cathcart completed a second half rally for the Hooker Lady Bulldogs, nailing a 3-pointer that tied Saturday night’s game at Guymon High School with 15 seconds left. But that was enough time for Guymon head coach Tyler Chapman to draw up a play to set up a potential game-winning shot.

Leading scorer Sydney Hein took that shot, scoring at the buzzer to send the orange-clad Guymon crowd into a frenzy as the Lady Tigers pulled off a 58-56 win in front of a packed senior night crowd.

Goodwell boys; Tyrone girls, boys fall in district championships

Goodwell’s Christian Arbuthnot shoots the ball in the district championship against Felt on Saturday at Keyes. Arbuthnot scored 17 in Goodwell’s 65-53 loss. Goodwell will play Tyrone Thursday at 3 p.m. in Keyes in the first round of the Area 1 regional tournament. Tyrone fell to Boise City 52-32 Saturday at Yarbrough.
