City Council members will discuss the removal of Convention and Tourism Board members at their next regular meeting. The discussion was sparked by Vice Mayor Ken Huckins who was elected only a year ago, and said he was “already tired of it,” referring to the alleged “personality” issues which he feels are affecting the way events are approved or denied funding of bed tax dollars.. Council agreed new guidelines were recently adopted to abolish that issue, yet an item was funded after the spokesperson was a no-show — a guildeline violation— while another item was not due to not meeting guidelines. Council ask that CT board members attend the next meeting for discussion, before any action is taken. — MIRANDA GILBERT |

Guymon Fire Department Photo
A late evening fire has left a Guymon couple homeless but thankful of being alive due to quick actions of nearby neighbors. Guymon Firefighters were called to a confirmed structure fire at the Dewey Coldiron residence at 8:52pm Thursday night just north of the Guymon city limits on Rd T. While Firefighters were enroute, large black clouds of smoke were obvious and being reported by residence on the northern side of Guymon. When Firefighters arrived, they found this large home full involved on the north side and being driven by 18-20mph winds from the north. Before Firefighters could manage to stop the fire, the house was a total loss. 2 Engines, 1 Rescue, 1 EMS unit, and 2 command units with 26 Firefighters and EMS personnel responded. “Cause of the fire is still under investigation” stated Guymon Fire Chief Clark Purdy. The reaal heroes of this scene are Ken and Sherry Stonecipher who were the nearby neighbors. According to interviews, they both noticed the garage and north end of the home on fire from their residence. Ken drove over to the house and was able to get Mr. & Mrs. Coldiron out the back door just as that portion of the home was fully involved with fire and smoke. This all occurred as Firefighters were still heading to the scene. Guymon Fire Department was assisted by Texas County District #2, Guymon Police Department, Texas County Sheriff Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Texas County Emergency Management, Tri-County Electric, and American Red Cross. |
